Artist Statement
One's past, from an unconscious and conscious level, can affect the present and how we relate to others. In therapy, for the client, this process is called transference, and for the therapist it is called counter transference. As an art therapist I am interested in learning more about the transference and counter transference phenomena as they manifest within the therapeutic relationship. Using art for this purpose has given me the opportunity to grow and learn more about myself and the therapeutic process.

In recent works, I pair my child self (from old photographs) with things that represent specific encounters or personal situations by using a variety of symbols. The juxtaposition of my child self against the counterparts that I have selected illustrate personal issues I have encountered over time and continue to address in my art.

Since perceiving is a subjective experience, I hope viewers will find their own meaning in the art that I create.
